The research group led by Prof. Dr. Saygın Abdikan at the Department of Geomatics Engineering, Hacettepe University, focuses on interdisciplinary studies in the fields of geographic information technologies, remote sensing, GIS, and LiDAR data processing techniques. Since 2000, the group has aimed to develop innovative methods for the comprehensive analysis and mapping of the environment and natural resources, with applications across multiple spatial scales, including forests, agriculture, urban, and coastal areas.
A key expertise area of the group is Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology, an advanced active remote sensing system that provides high-resolution Earth observations under all weather and illumination conditions. The group conducts extensive research on SAR data processing, classification, and GIS integration, contributing to critical applications such as disaster management, land deformation monitoring, and forest and agricultural land assessment.
Beyond SAR, the group also carries out collaborative projects involving multi-sensor data fusion, machine learning, and spatio-temporal modelling, working closely with public institutions, industry partners, and international research networks.
This website has been developed within the scope of the TÜBİTAK–BAS bilateral cooperation project (Project No: 222N088), titled “Monitoring Rice Fields by Joint Use of Multi‑temporal SAR and Optical Data for Yield and Growth Estimation.”
While the site highlights the ongoing TÜBİTAK project, it also serves as a central platform where visitors can access detailed information about the group’s past, current, and future research activities. Here, you will find:
Project details: objectives, methods, and expected outcomes of the TÜBİTAK–BAS project.
Research themes: broader work in SAR, optical remote sensing, GIS, and environmental monitoring.
Publications & outputs: scientific papers, reports, datasets, and open-source tools.
Collaborations & networks: national and international partners across academia, industry, and government.
News & updates: workshops, field campaigns, and research highlights.
This platform is designed to showcase both the scientific impact and the societal relevance of the research, ensuring knowledge transfer and visibility of outcomes to a wide range of stakeholders.
